Alex “Hitman” Gorgees is an Australian mixed martial art’s rising star.

Fighting out of Australian Top Team under the guidance of the Mokhtarian Brothers, he will once again enter the octagon at Hex Fight Series 16.

At we want to highlight the quality coming out of local elite organizations such as Hex, AFC, DFC, XFC, Aftershock, Eternal and UFN.

Alex has represented Aftershock, UFN (title holder) and HEX, and today we got to catch up and learn more about the “Hitman”.

Wayne: Alex, the nickname, who and how did you get the “Hitman”?
Alex: So, When I first started at ATT I was known as “The Sloth”. I was 115 kgs and plum shaped ha-ha. Then after training every day and constantly putting my time into training/dieting, I started getting smaller and being able to beat up a lot of the big boys in our gym. After a while, we had people coming into our gym to bully some of the guys, so the Mokhtarian’s use to look at me and give me a nod which usually meant you can beat them up, and that’s how I got the “Hitman”
Wayne: love it!

Wayne: You are from Sydney, why MMA? What made you turn to it?
Alex: Well, every sport I have ever played I have been kicked out of. That goes from soccer, football, and Ping Pong.
Wayne: Ping Pong!!
Alex: Yes, Ping Pong ha-ha.

Wayne: What hobbies outside of MMA does the “Hitman” have?
Alex: I love swimming, that definitely is a hobby of mine. I mean I get out and play a lot other during the week to stay active.

Wayne: Is fighting a fulltime job for you yet? If not, are you working as well?
Alex: Fighting is like my full-time job, I train every morning and night, usually between that I work at different schools with a program called “Creating Chances”. I’m at 3 different schools throughout my week.
Wayne: Sounds rewarding Alex.
Alex: It is very rewarding.

Wayne: I like to ask about music, you Sydneysiders are a little different, what are you listening to at the moment?
Alex: Definitely Pull The Trigger, Russ.
Wayne: Man, I must be getting old, who are they? LOL

Wayne: Ok, now that we know little more about you…….

I watched some of your fights, you have length and range over most of your opponents. I love to compare local MMA talent to the UFC guys. One name came straight to my mind when I seen you fight …… Nate Diaz.

The heavy ground and pound and a strong BJJ base! Did I see a clip of you where you slapped your opponent (Which you predicted you would do before the fight)?

Alex: Hahaha, yes, a lot of people compare me to the Diaz Brothers. And, I mean if I can slap you I most definitely can punch you so it’s only a matter of time before it happens.

Wayne: All-time favorite, would it be the Stockton Bad Boys?
Alex: Most definitely the Diaz Brothers.
Wayne: Nick Portella and you would get along, he loves them to the point it’s a little strange.

Wayne: Who’s your favorite local fighter?
Alex: For this one, I actually have a few. Might be biased because he is my teammate, but every time Raymart Quintana fights I’m on the edge of my toes saying this person is about to get finished. Also, my main training partner Suman Mohktarian. When you watch him you always know something insane is about to happen, tepee, twister!

Wayne: Ok, so Dana White calls you and says “you have a UFC debut, pick an opponent, anyone”……
Alex: I’d love to fight Nate Diaz, only because of him being my favorite and it would be amazing.
Wayne: Mate, I would fight CM Punk first up!

Wayne: Who are some of your teammates that Australian MMA fans should keep an eye out for?
Alex: I could give you a massive list. Let’s start with Raymart Quintana, Darwin Sagurit, Suman Mohktarian and Sam Jo Toetu. Also, Kaan Sanchez, this man is an amateur at the moment, in 2 years’ time he will take over the bantamweight division.

Wayne: Random question, let’s see if I get the answer I want. You train with both the Mokhtarian brothers, Suman and Ashkan. Who’s a better bloke? LOL.
Alex: Hahahaha whenever someone asks me this question I say the same thing. I love them both and they are both top blokes, I like to always say “never judge a book by its cover”, they both have hearts of gold.
Wayne: I was hoping for you to say Ashkan, so I could give Suman some shit! LOL.

Alright, time for my quickfire 5 questions.

Wayne: Ronda or Meisha?
Alex: Ronda.

Wayne: KO or Submission win?
Alex: KO.

Wayne: Beer or Bourbon?
Alex: I don’t Drink, but Bourbon.
Wayne: Must be an Australian Top Team thing.

Wayne: Khabib or Conor?
Alex: Khabib.
Wayne: Too right!

Wayne: Car or Motorbike?
Alex: Car.
Wayne: See, I always thought “The Hitman” would be on a Harley!

Wayne: Alex, for us couch potatoes, tell me what the feeling is like when that cage door closes?
Alex: Every time I step inside the cage I get goosebumps, the adrenaline rushes through my body and my heart starts beating fast, and all I’m thinking is someone gonna die tonight!
Wayne: Awesome answer!

Wayne: Who has been the greatest influence on your career?
Alex: Most definitely my family. They do everything for me to keep pushing for my dream.

Wayne: Your opponent at Hex 16, what do you know about him?
Alex: My opponent is more experienced than me and has had more fights. This will be the biggest step up in competition in my career but I am looking forward to this one.
(Alex is fighting Kuldeep Sehkon 8-3)

Wayne: Prediction time, how do you get the win.
Alex: All I can say is I will pull a few tricks out of a bag for this one, then finish him.
Wayne: Can’t wait, mate.

Wayne: I like to give guys the opportunity to thank their team, who do you want to thank?
Alex: Shout out to my Australian Top Team boys Josh Togo, Raymart Quintana, Darwin Sagurit, Tennessee Etuaite, Kaan Sanchez, Sam Jo Toetu, Suman and Ashkan Mohktarian and the rest of the ATT family.

Wayne: Sponsorship shout out for those that look after you?
Alex: Man, I am sponsored by some of the coolest places. Thanks, Matt from UNIBET, Karim from Fratelli Pizzeria, Khalil from Body fit, Uncle H, Melki from Poletto.

Wayne: Alex, Thanks for your time, great honest answers.
Alex: Thank you very much for your time, just know I won’t stop till I make the UFC #Fuckthehaters!
Wayne: LOL, love it.

Myself, and MMA Freaks all wish Alex the best for his fight and the future.

Get yourself to Hex Fight Series 16 and watch the local MMA, you won’t be disappointed!
