Darwin “Sugar” Sagurit fights at Hex Fight Series 16 against Kapil Kumar on the 8th September at the Melbourne Pavilion.
Can another impressive win catapult the hardest hitting Bantamweight into a UFC contract?
UFC, you want excitement, you want KOs, you want a fighter that has shown intestinal fortitude to battle through losses and come out the other side.
Look no further, the time is now, Darwin “Sugar” Sagurit is your man, UFC Adelaide SHOULD be the perfect debut!
Fighting out of Australian Top Team in Sydney, working with the Mokhtarian brothers and a gym full of killers, this 13 pro fight veteran is ready to show all MMA fans that the hype is real.
A fight history that didn’t start off in the greatest fashion. 2 amateur losses at Brace didn’t really have the professional ranks looking over their shoulders.
2 Professional losses and the man in question sat 0-4 in MMA.
But what you will learn when watching Darwin “Sugar” Sagurit is he has no quit in him. 5 straight victories followed in 5 different promotions showing he will fight anyone wherever they like. Featherweight, Bantamweight doesn’t matter!
An untimely loss at PXC in the Philippines after his run of 5 victories stopped the winning run, this again, didn’t deter this man’s determination.
Darwin “Sugar” Sagurit has since put together a terrifying 2 years of Mixed Martial Arts destruction. Five, yes Five, KO wins in a row!
Four of those 5 have been first-round stoppages against some of the best in the local scene. Names such as Jai Bradney and Roldan Sangcha-an are included in that run.
The one fight that went to the third round was against stand out South Korean Jung Hyun Ahn. I sat and watched Sagurit land the left hook from hell.
Never had I seen such power generated from a Bantamweight…. WOW was pretty much all I could muster.
As always, we compare local fighters to the UFC roster. When I think of Darwin “Sugar” Sagurit, I see a Filipino/Australian version of “Hands of Stone” John Lineker. Both carry the power that you would expect from men many divisions above Bantamweight. When they land, the fight ends, both stand and deliver from a strong low base.
Here at Nick Portella MMA we normally do “what’s next”, today I will change that to “what’s first” for Darwin “Sugar” Sagurit if he wins at HEX 16 and gets an opportunity in the UFC.
Brett Johns – Why not? The Welshman is a highly touted fighter who is coming off two losses, at (15-2) he needs a win. After the calf slicer against Joe Soto, many MMA fans thought we had a new title challenger.
The excitement level for this fight- 9/10
Johnny Eduardo – The unranked Brazilian is coming off 2 losses but carries an impressive (28-12) record. This is a good matchup as I feel Sagurit’s power could trouble him.
The excitement level for this fight- 7/10
Andre Soukhamthath – With a (12-6) record he needs a win or he is in the line of fire to be cut. Soukhamthath is a highly talented fighter who I feel wouldn’t like Sagurit’s forward pressure. It would be a striking masterclass that would thrill the crowd!
The excitement level for this fight- 7/10
Joe Soto – A late replacement title challenger with a record of (18-7), Soto would also be a great match up! I think once Sagurit landed with the power he would have this opponent backing up against the cage pretty quickly. I don’t feel Soto would have the power to keep the raging bull off him.
The excitement level for this fight -6/10
We as MMA fans need to unite and ensure the best of our local talent get the opportunity they so greatly deserve.
A comprehensive win at HEX Fight Series 16 should have Darwin “Sugar” Sagurit preparing for that Adelaide UFC debut in December!
UFC, any of the above-named fighters at UFC Adelaide Fight Night………. You won’t be disappointed!
As always, myself, NickPortellaMMA.com and MMA Freaks wish Darwin all the best for Hex Fight Series 16, a UFC debut and beyond.
